( as soon as atticus and miss bennet play the final note of the piece, the party breaks into an applause. naturally. by itself, the piece is lovely, but even more so when played by two talented performers. with a thin-lipped smile, atticus bows to acknowledge the praise, but gestures at his partner to direct all accolades to her. he was already familiar with the piece, so it was not difficult to relearn; anyways, the violin portion is also not difficult. but, since miss bennet had never heard or played it before and as the piano portion is more complex, it was more difficult for her to pick up and master. he is proud of miss bennet. not only because she can now play it without any audible mistakes but because she can replicate it in front of an audience.

and then the youngest bennet here jumps up as if she was struck by a tack, and declares that she has an announcement to make. as the ladies make their way to a sofa, atticus places his violin and the bow on top of the pianoforte, but, as there is no additional seating not directly next to miss darcy, he elects to remain standing near the fireplace. for a gentry woman of a marriageable age, there is only one announcement miss kitty could make. the prospect of it tugs at his features, almost twisting his mouth to a frown. but then, he catches miss bennet's gaze, and his expression melts into something more neutral, almost comforting. a wide smile spreads across miss kitty's face, and she draws in a deep breath. )
